Chronic Pain

Living with chronic pain can be very tough…

Living with chronic pain can affect our quality of life. Chronic pain is usually classified as pain which has not resolved after greater than 3 months. It may have been the result of an injury or accident e.g. motor vehicle accident. You must learn how to manage this pain, and hopefully recover from it as well.

How pain affects the body

The body’s reaction to unrelieved pain includes:

  • increased heart and blood pressure
  • higher levels of stress hormones
  • gastrointestinal problems
  • musculoskeletal problems including tension and fatigue
  • emotional problems including anxiety and depression

Therefore it is important to manage all the areas that chronic pain can affect. This could include your GP, councillor, psychologist or even a Specialist. You may also require the help of a Physiotherapist, Podiatrist, Dietitian, Myotherapist, Psychologist or Exercise Physiologist to help address your needs.
